SHUTAP - SHU Tablet Project

A Tablet PC is a thin and lightweight laptop computers with a special screen you can write on as if it was a piece of paper. By swiveling the screen it can also function as a regular keyboard-based laptop. These new devices, optimized for the Windows XP Tablet Edition© operating system, are said to possibly replace ordinary laptops within a few years.

For the academic year 2004/05 Seton Hall is expanding the Tablet PC Project and has secured about 60 Toshiba Tablet PC's to be distributed to faculty due for a "refresh" upon request.

  • Toshiba Portege M200 and the IBM 41 T are SHU's standard Tablet PC's
  • Over 1/3 of our full-time faculty are using a Tablet PC, and the overwhelming majority is very satisfied
  • The Tablet PC project has expanded to include 50 students in the Honors program and 40 students in the Sciences. A decision to further expand the project is possible soon.
  • The 2006 Refresh Options for faculty will soon be announced.
In 2003 Seton Hall secured a small number of tablet PC's for an evaluation project. Approximately 16 members of the Seton Hall community participated in this project and shared their ideas about the usefulness of a Tablet PC with us. You can find the complete results of our 2003 study here.
